What could be more irresistible than new yarn and a project knit in the round on size 15 needles? Yes, that deadline on the dress is looming and of course there is a laundry list of other projects already en cours. But those projects aren't exactly kid friendly. This new project doesn't mind a tug here or a little baby drool there - after all, it will be felted. (It can even withstand attacks by Cookie Monster and Bob the Builder trucks!) It doesn't require any counting or attention to pattern repeats and best of all, it can be dropped at a moment's notice to attend to the latest crisis. An added bonus is IF, after all of my pattern revisions, this little number turns out as planned, it will be a cute holiday gift. So it's really an economical investment of time.
Okay, who am I kidding? First and foremost, it's a little "found time" for knitting. Second, it's therapy for Busy Mom who's feeling frustrated by the fact that she hasn't had a knittable moment on the dress in days. It's good to see some progress on something - even if it's not the dress or potty training or sleeping through the night or getting to the bottom of that never ending heap of laundry! And third, it's the guilty pleasure of starting something new that can be rationalized so readily: this is my first attempt at revising/rewriting a pattern, the yarn was on sale in my LYS, it's going to be a gift. I consider this un joli défi - an interesting challenge to see if my re-creation of this pattern turns out as nicely as I hope.
